July Reads: Inspired by Modern Mrs. Darcy

This post is inspired by Modern Mrs. Darcy‘s podcast: What Should I Read Next? I have been listening to this podcast fervently over the past week (episodes 28 – 18), and have built a large list of must-read books that I can’t wait to dive into! Anne Bogel (Modern Mrs. Darcy) hosts this podcast and each week she interviews a reader who is looking for a new book to read. She asks them to summarize their favorite three books, one book they hate, and then comes up with three new possibilities they might enjoy. A few books have popped up that I have read previously and forgotten about, such as one I am currently reading: Sarah Addison Allen’s Garden Spells. I read this book two summers ago and love that it is full of magic, wistfulness, romance, and family secrets. If you are looking for a new podcast, or great book ideas, WSIRN is the one for you! Here is a list of books mentioned on the podcast that I am planning on reading in the month of July, and maybe spilling into August and September.

July Reads:

  1. Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler

  2. Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
  3. A Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg
  4. The Real Thing: Lessons on Love and Life from a Wedding Reporter’s Notebook by Ellen McCarthy

  5. Love Does: Discover a Secretly Incredible Life in an Ordinary World by Bob Goff

  6. The Post-Birthday World by Lionel Shriver

  7. Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng

  8. No One Knows by J.T. Ellison

  9. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

  10. The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough

  11. The Shoemaker’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani

  12. The Forgetting Time by Sharon Guskin

I probably won’t get to all of these in July (most likely not!) but will save this list and keep adding more as I get to new episodes of the podcast. My plan is to start with The Forgetting Time, but after that who knows…

Happy Reading!
